Because they are naturally tart and soft, they are great for cooking and baking. McIntosh trees are great for home orchards and backyard gardens because they grow to be 12 to 15 feet tall. They’re self-pollinating (you don’t need a second tree!), can survive cold weather in zones 4-7, and give you a lot of fruit every fall. In September, you can pick your own crisp, fragrant apples and enjoy the taste of homegrown tradition!
