Here’s the scoop… bigger Bobcat bucket, same great product!

Category: Garden Resource | Posted by: Mike Riesenberg

We retired an old friend early this year. Our friend, after many years of faithful service, was worn down and ready to move on.

No, our friend is not a person – I’m referring to the bucket on the Bobcat that we use to load our great bulk products into the truck beds and trailers of our customers. In its place we have a new sturdy bucket ready to provide our customers with the same great quality bulk products!

The high quality and standards of our bulk mulches and soils has not changed. So whether you purchase scoops of our premium Black Gold Mulch or dry, shredded topsoil, you can expect the same high-quality products of the past.

So what is the difference?

The difference, you’ll notice, is that there is now more product in a single scoop of our new bucket.

Our new Bobcat bucket holds two-thirds of a cubic yard of product versus our old retired bucket which held half of a cubic yard of product. Looking at it another way, our new bucket holds 17% more product per scoop than our old bucket. Measuring 67 inches (five feet seven inches) across, our new Bobcat bucket will easily dump into most truck beds and trailers (many standard truck beds measure at six and half feet).

With the new Bobcat bucket you might be thinking… How do I figure out how many scoops of mulch I need?

Whether you buy the same amount of mulch every year, or you’re trying to finish-off a new landscape bed we can help you figure it out. If you buy the same number of scoops from year to year, as many of our customers do, any of our friendly staff can tell you how many scoops you’ll need with the new bucket (it will be fewer scoops).

Another option is our handy online Mulch Calculator – in just a few easy steps we can tell you how much mulch you’ll need and you can even order it online! To do this, you’ll need to know the length and width of your bed. With this information, our calculator can compute the square footage of your bed. Next you’ll need to decide how deep you want to lay the mulch – we recommend a 1” depth for beds that were previously mulched and a 2” depth for newly mulched beds. Then presto! You need X amount!

All of our quality bulk materials come from our great State of Ohio. Our signature Black Gold Hardwood Mulch (available in bulk and bags) comes from Latham, Ohio – the foothills of Appalachia. This premium mulch is a by-product of the lumber industry where the bark of hardwood trees is shredded and composted resulting in a consistent high-quality organic mulch. The other three bulk products, dyed black mulch, shredded topsoil, and compost all come from the Cincinnati area.
